The Psalms of Pistis Sophia

The defining feature of the Pistis Sophia is a series of 13 repentances uttered by Sophia in her ongoing attempts, with the Gnostic Christ’s assistance, to free herself from the ensnarement and clutches of the lower Aeons which had lured her out of her heavenly abode and into chaos. Each of the repentances uttered corresponded to a particular Psalm, which illustrated the then-current stage of Sophia’s recovery and restoration to her rightful station in a progressive manner throughout her ascent. Contemplation and study of these repentances provides a rich meditative subject for consideration of one’s own growth towards the Light and one’s own struggle with the admixtures and impurities of their own lower nature.

The Psalms, in order of ascent are

  1. Psalm 69
  2. Psalm 71
  3. Psalm 70
  4. Psalm 102
  5. Psalm 88
  6. Psalm 130
  7. Psalm 25
  8. Psalm 31
  9. Psalm 35
  10. Psalm 120
  11. Psalm 52
  12. Psalm 109
  13. Psalm 51

Psalms are presented in their entirety on succeeding pages. All psalms are taken from a public domain version of the King James version of the Bible.

The Psalms of Pistis Sophia are part of a wider Sophianic tradition within Western esotericism. If the voice of Sophia resonates with you, you may find further depth in The Gnostic Divine Mother, a page exploring the wider feminine wisdom tradition within Western esotericism.
